South Indian cuisine is largely rice based. Some of the popular rice and lentils dishes include Dosas, Uttapam, Idlis and Vadas.
The food usually consists of multiple courses of rice with:
Sambhar
Rasam and
Yogurt
These are accompanied with chutneys that contain tamarind peanuts, coconut and fenugreek seeds.
The food is followed by coconut milk or Coffee
